Cardinal Sean P. George's University of London, attended a news conference officially launching the Center for Child Protection in Rome. Given what a cancer the clerical sexual abuse scandals have been for the Catholic Church, one would imagine the Vatican would want new bishops to get a state-of-the-art presentation on best practices in terms of preventing such meltdowns in the future. The Vatican has been running just such a training course since for newly appointed bishops around the world, and almost 30 percent of the Catholic prelates in the world today have taken it. Traditionally, bishops have three key tasks: sanctifying, teaching, and governing. New bishops need to hear something about each, but on governance, a preeminent place clearly should go to the fight against child sexual abuse.

More importantly, John Paul II has been criticised for hindering the investigation into the charges of sexual immorality leveled against Father Marcial Maciel Degollado. This is despite the fact that Maciel was already under investigation by the Vatican in for drug addiction when he established the Legionaries in Ireland. At the time the Vatican had removed him as superior of the Legionaries and was investigating allegations that he abused morphine.
There are two main points to take issue with here. First, the interesting reference to age and race. The current research reveals that those who access such images online are not a homogenous group.
